My Article on Adjectives Part-1


                                              The Adjective
       Definition: An Adjective is a word. It qualifies a noun or a pronoun.
In other word Adjective denotes the quality/speciality of a noun or apronoun.
Eg: 1. Dr. Sharma   is a good doctor.
In this example many doctors are there in our town but among them he is good. So the word’ good ‘ is an adjective it indicates the quality of the doctor.
2. Rose is a beautiful flower.
In this example, Rose is a beautiful flower. So what? Jasmine is a flower. Lilly is a flower. But among all flowers Rose is beautiful. Here, the word ‘beautiful    [Adj] denoting the speciality of a Rose.
 Types of Adjectives:
1.Adjectives of Quality: It shows what kind of a thing is.
Eg:a dark room, a tall tree, an old fort, a white cow, a brilliant scientist.
1. Dr. APJ Kalam was a brilliant scientist.
2. They have a white cow.
3. It is a dark room.
2.Adjectives of Quantity: These Adjectives show the quantity of a thing.
Eg: some, little, much, enough, sufficient, all, whole, great, etc..
1. Can you lend me some money?
2. There is little water in the can.
3. You have to spare enough time to learn something new.
4. He has sufficient income to maintain his family.
5. All the employees attended the meeting.
6. There is no much distance between MP and UP.
7. Bose was a great freedom fighter.
8. His whole money was spent for his daughter’s marriage.
3.Adjectives of Number: These adjectives show how many things or in what order. These are two kinds.
[a] Definite Adjectives of Number-which refer to an exact number.
Eg: one, two, three, [cardinals] first, second, third [ordinals].
[b] Indefinite Adjectives of number-which don’t refer an exact number.
Eg: many, a few, any, several etc.
1. He has many friends in Hyderabad.
2. A few people can understand you in the world.
3 .Do you have any doubt?
4. He knows several things.
4. Demonstrative Adjectives: These adjectives point out persons or things.
E g: this, that, these, those, such etc...
1. This pen writes well.
2. That dress is mine.
3. Never repeat such mistakes.
4. Those days of India were miserable.
5. These fruits are from Kerala.
5.Distributive Adjectives: These refer to each one of a number.
Eg: each, every, either, neither etc…
1. Each fan rotates well in our classroom.
2. Every day is good day to an Optimist.
3. Either of the two movies is nice.
4. Neither of the two suggestions is good.
6.Interrogative Adjectives: Adjectives which are used with nouns to ask questions are called Interrogative adjectives.
Eg: which, what, whose.
1. Which book is yours?
2. What kind of food you like?
3. Whose quotes did you like?
7.Exclamatory Adjectives: These adjectives are what and how.
1. What a beautiful rose!
2. How nice your words are!
8. Emphatic Adjectives : Own and very are called Emphatic Adjectives.
Eg: 1.Mind your own business.
2. The very purpose of education is to remove ignorance.
3. This is the very school where I studied.
4. This is my own land.
9.Proper Adjectives:  A proper adjective is formed from a proper noun.
1. The Indian culture is a great culture.
2The Turkish Empire was very   vast.
3. The Gandhian ideas are very popular.
4. The Italian people are fond of arts.
